Narayana Schools proudly celebrated International Literacy Day 2024, a day dedicated to honouring the power of reading and writing. Literacy is more than just a fundamental skill—it is a key that unlocks knowledge, communication, and personal growth. Being literate enables individuals to understand the world around them and engage effectively, making life easier by allowing them to learn, develop critical skills, and share ideas. Narayana Schools took this opportunity to emphasise the importance of literacy, hosting a range of engaging activities designed to inspire students.

Fun and Learning: Engaging Students Through Literacy Quizzes and Creative Expression

As part of the International Literacy Day celebrations, the school organised a fun and interactive quiz for students to test their knowledge about literacy and its impact on society. The quiz not only made learning enjoyable but also highlighted the significance of literacy in everyday life. Students actively participated, displaying a keen interest in learning more about the history of literacy and its role in human development.

In addition to the quiz, students from different grades were given a platform to express what literacy means to them. Their reflections were both heartwarming and insightful. One student shared, “Literacy is about more than just knowing words. It’s about understanding the world around us and being able to use words, letters, and numbers to communicate effectively.” These personal insights emphasised how literacy touches every aspect of life, from leisure activities to essential skills like problem-solving and communication.

India’s Literacy Journey: Progress and Challenges

While we celebrate the progress made in improving literacy rates, it’s important to recognise the journey still ahead. India boasts a literacy rate of around 74%, (according to the 2011 census) a remarkable improvement from the time of independence. This progress is a testament to the efforts made in promoting education over the past decades.

The staggering number of people who still cannot read or write underscores the importance of initiatives like International Literacy Day. It’s a day to reflect on the progress we’ve made and to renew our commitment to ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to learn and grow through literacy.

Technology: A New Era of Learning

In today’s digital age, technology has become a powerful tool in spreading literacy far and wide. With the advent of online resources, educational apps, and digital books, learning has never been more accessible. Narayana Schools embrace this transformation by encouraging students to utilise the nLearn and nConnect tools, offering personalised practice solutions that make learning more comfortable and supportive and also provides a range of features designed to keep parents informed with real-time updates on their child’s attendance, academic progress, and overall development. At Narayana, we believe in the power of technology to make education more inclusive and efficient. Through technology, we can reach more learners, provide better resources, and offer personalised learning experiences that cater to individual needs.

Growing Together Through Literacy

International Literacy Day 2024 serves as a reminder that literacy is not just a skill but a lifelong journey. At Narayana Schools, we are committed to fostering a love for learning and helping every student achieve their fullest potential. We believe that when we read and write, we grow together, building a stronger, more informed community.

On Engineers’ Day, Narayana Schools joined hands to celebrate one of India’s most respected engineers, Sir M. Visvesvaraya, whose remarkable contributions have shaped modern India. Sir Visvesvaraya, a pioneer in civil engineering, is credited with revolutionary projects in the country’s water systems and infrastructure. His vision, dedication, and groundbreaking work laid the foundation for the engineering feats we witness today. To honour his legacy, students at Narayana Schools enthusiastically participated in activities and shared their thoughts on the significance of Engineers’ Day and the vital role engineers play in shaping our world.

Celebrating the Innovators: Engineers as the Backbone of the Nation

Engineers truly are the backbone of modern society. From towering skyscrapers to the smallest gadgets in our hands, engineers design, analyse, and build everything around us. Their work is the foundation upon which we rely for everyday conveniences and technological advancements. At Narayana Schools, students embraced the opportunity to learn about the incredible contributions of engineers in various fields. Through this event, they explored how engineers have transformed the world around them, solving problems and creating innovations that make life easier.

One student shared, “That engineers find clever solutions to make everyday life simpler!” The message resonated deeply as students reflected on the contributions of engineers, not just in India, but globally.

Inspiring Future Engineers: Dreams of Innovation

During the celebration, students from different grades spoke about their aspirations to become engineers, inspired by role models in various disciplines. A sixth-grader highlighted one of the earliest and most iconic feats of engineering—the Great Wall of China. “Did you know that one of the earliest feats of engineering is the Great Wall of China? Architects used techniques way to advance to build a structure that could withstand invasions and endure harsh weather conditions,” the student said, proudly expressing a dream of becoming a civil engineer and contributing to projects like the Atal Setu bridge in India.

Another student, captivated by space exploration, expressed a desire to follow in the footsteps of Dr. S. Somanath, the Chairman of ISRO. “Space fascinates me, and it is my dream to become an aerospace engineer like Dr. Somanath and contribute to our country’s space journey,” said the aspiring space enthusiast.

As students reflected on the engineering marvels that surround us, from machines to bridges, they expressed deep gratitude to the engineers who constantly shape and reshape the world we live in

“Engineers are the problem-solvers of society, whether in technology, infrastructure, or healthcare. Their contributions are what make the world function seamlessly, and we cannot imagine life without them,” said Dr. P. Sindhura, Director of Narayana Educational Institutions. She emphasised the importance of Engineers’ Day in recognising the immense value engineers bring to every facet of life.

Ms. P. Sharani, Director of Narayana Educational Institutions, added, “At Narayana, we believe in nurturing the next generation of engineers who will continue to innovate and solve the challenges of tomorrow. Engineers are essential to the growth and development of our nation, and today, we honour their incredible dedication.”

As the celebrations concluded, all students came together with one heartfelt message: “Thank you, engineers!”

Celebrating Dreams at Narayana

At Narayana Educational Institutions, Engineers’ Day is more than just a celebration of past achievements—it is an inspiration for the future. Narayana Schools remain dedicated to empowering students to reach their full potential, guiding them toward becoming the engineers, innovators, and problem-solvers of tomorrow because at Narayana, Your Dreams are our Dreams.

Guidecast by Narayana: How Digital Addiction and Dependency is Impacting Your Child’s Life

Narayana Educational Institutions recently released the fourth episode of their podcast series, Guidecast by Narayana, titled “Digital Dependency and Addiction.” This episode delved into the growing influence of digital dependency on children’s development, focusing on the complex nature of digital addiction and its impact on mental and emotional well-being.

According to a 2022 survey, 27% of children aged 9-13 had access to smartphones, spending an average of 3.4 hours online daily. Approximately 87% of children aged 12-15 and 80% of those aged 6-11 regularly used smartphones. These figures highlighted the increasing presence of technology in children’s lives.

When used wisely, digital tools offer significant advantages, such as access to information, networking, and educational resources. However, the episode also explored how excessive use could lead to addiction, affecting children’s social interactions, attention span, and emotional intelligence. Overexposure to gadgets was said to shrink brain areas responsible for cognitive functions, potentially leading to poor decision-making and heightened anxiety. One example shared in the episode illustrated a child so addicted to devices that it caused anxiety and disrupted sleep.

The first season of Guidecast focused on mental well-being, with the inaugural episode addressing anxiety and offering guidance to help students navigate the challenges they face. The fourth episode continued this mission by examining the impact of digital dependency. The episode recommended that parents set screen time limits, monitor usage, and engage children in physical activities to prevent overuse. It emphasised the importance of balancing digital and physical experiences and encouraged parents to maintain open communication with their children.

The fourth episode of the podcast is available on YouTube: Guidecast Episode 4.

Disha: Narayana’s Mental Well-Being Programme

To address such challenges, Narayana Educational Institutions launched the Disha Programme in 2017. Led by Ms. Vijaylakshmi K, an experienced psychologist, the programme focuses on mental wellness, offering emotional support to students. The Disha team reaches 283 schools and 279 colleges, conducting over 3,500 group sessions annually and supporting more than 300,000 students.

Dr. P. Sindhura, Director at Narayana Educational Institutions, remarked, “Guidecast exemplifies our commitment to supporting both the academic and emotional growth of our students. Our goal with this episode is to equip parents with the knowledge and guidance so that students can thrive in this digital age.”

Ms. P. Sharani, Director at Narayana Educational Institutions, added, “At Narayana, we believe in equipping students with the tools to face real-world challenges. Guidecast by Narayana offers insights that empower parents and students to navigate these issues thoughtfully.”

Narayana’s Guidecast aims to provide valuable advice and inspiring stories to help parents foster their children’s well-being. The upcoming episodes are set to cover topics such as focus, academic pressure, and resilience-building.

Narayana Educational Institutions has long been a beacon of excellence, dedicated to guiding students towards reaching their full potential. With the launch of Guidecast, Narayana reinforces its commitment to the overall development of its students, helping them overcome challenges and achieve their dreams—because at Narayana, Your Dreams Are Our Dreams.

On the occasion of National Sports Day, Narayana Schools proudly celebrated the achievements of their talented young athletes, emphasising the vital role sports play in developing well-rounded individuals. National Sports Day is celebrated on 29th August, marking the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand – India’s legendary hockey player. To mark this special event, Narayana Schools shared inspiring stories from some of their national and international sports players, showcasing the spirit of perseverance, dedication, and excellence that sports embody.

Narayana Schools organised Sports Day events across all branches in India, with activities including a sports quiz titled “Quizletics” and various other sporting events. The motto for the day, “Unite, Play, Inspire,” encapsulated the spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork that the day sought to celebrate.

One of the highlights of the event was the speech by V. Anagha, who recently secured first place in the Japan Shotokan Open Karate Championship. Her story was a testament to the values of persistence and dedication that sports can instil in young minds, inspiring everyone present to strive for their own personal best.

Additionally, Narayana’s international Cestoball player, K. Shobhita, shared her experience participating in the Indo-Malaysian International Cestoball Championship held in Malaysia, where her team emerged victorious. She spoke about how her continuous practise and commitment to the sport have shaped her character, making her more disciplined and determined both on and off the field.

Through the event, Narayana Schools demonstrated their unwavering commitment to fostering an environment that promotes both academic and physical development. By recognising the achievements of their students and providing platforms for them to share their stories, Narayana continues to inspire a culture of perseverance, teamwork, and dedication.

Dr. P. Sindhura summed up the spirit of the day by saying, “On National Sports Day, we celebrate the incredible achievements of our students and the enduring spirit of sportsmanship. At Narayana Schools, we believe that sports play a vital role in shaping character, fostering teamwork, and building resilience. I am proud of our young athletes who embody these values and inspire us all to strive for greatness every day.”

This National Sports Day, Narayana Schools remind us that the lessons learned through sports—whether on the field or off—are lessons for life. Here’s to celebrating every victory, every effort, and every dream, because at Narayana, your dreams are our dreams.

January 26th holds a significant place in India’s history as the day our nation became a sovereign republic with the adoption of the Constitution. On this historic occasion, Independent India officially transformed into the Republic of India. Celebrated as one of the three national holidays, Republic Day stands as a tribute to the values of democracy, unity, and justice that form the foundation of our nation.

At Narayana Schools, the 76th Republic Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and pride. Our students took this opportunity to explore and share lesser-known facts about Republic Day and its significance. With vibrant tricolour flags painted on their faces and a passion for learning in their hearts, they illuminated the occasion with their knowledge and creativity.

From explaining why the President hoists the national flag to recounting the first-ever Republic Day parade held at the Irwin Amphitheatre (now Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium), our students shared fascinating insights. They highlighted how each state showcases its unique culture during the parade, symbolising India’s unity in diversity. They also informed us about the grandeur of the Beating Retreat ceremony, held annually on 29th January, bringing the Republic Day celebrations to a majestic close.

Dr. P. Sindhura, Director of Narayana Schools, shared her thoughts:
“On this 76th Republic Day, our students demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm and patriotism. At Narayana Schools, we believe it is essential for our students to appreciate the struggles of the past while embracing the opportunities of the future. Their knowledge and pride in the nation make us incredibly proud.”

The celebrations at Narayana Schools were a grand success, beginning with the flag hoisting ceremony and continuing with students dressing up as freedom fighters who played pivotal roles in India’s independence and its journey to becoming a republic. Through their thoughtful participation, our students beautifully conveyed the importance of Republic Day and its lasting impact on India’s progress.

At Narayana Schools, we strive to nurture informed, responsible citizens who value India’s rich history, seize present opportunities, and work towards a brighter future.

In a spirited National Energy Conservation Day celebration, students across Narayana Schools embraced this year’s theme — ‘Powering Sustainability: Every Watt Counts.’ The event served as a powerful reminder of the importance of energy conservation and how small actions contribute significantly to a sustainable future.

The day began with an engaging session in which students became energy detectives, identifying energy wastage within their school premises. As they explored, they demonstrated practical applications of energy-saving techniques. One student remarked, “This theme is a simple reminder—small actions can make a big difference. Together, we can protect our planet, save energy, and build a better future.”

During the event, students pointed out a running fan in an empty classroom. One enthusiastic student from Narayana eChamps exclaimed, “Look here! A running fan in an empty classroom. A classic example of energy wastage.” The fan was promptly switched off, followed by a cheerful reminder: “Remember, always switch off fans and lights when leaving a room.”

Their quest continued in the computer lab where another student identified an “energy vampire” — a computer left running unnecessarily. With quick action, the computer was turned off, reinforcing the lesson: “We must switch off electronics when not in use.” These practical demonstrations underscored the significance of everyday energy-saving habits.

The event also educated students about India’s contributions to energy conservation and the role of renewable energy sources. One student explained passionately, “India is actively focusing on renewable energy sources like solar power and wind energy. The government’s initiatives are aimed at reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable development.”

Students were particularly inspired by the Bhadla Solar Park in Rajasthan, the world’s largest solar project. A student shared with excitement, “Did you know that India’s Bhadla Solar Park covers 14,000 acres and is a global showcase of innovation in renewable energy?” This sparked discussions about the potential of solar energy in reducing dependency on conventional power sources.

Reflecting on the event, Dr. P. Sindhura, Director of Narayana Educational Institutions, stated, “National Energy Conservation Day teaches our students that small, mindful actions can drive immense change. At Narayana Schools, we are committed to instilling these values and preparing our students to lead sustainable lives.”

Adding to this, Ms. P. Sharani, Director of Narayana Educational Institutions, expressed, “Our goal is to empower students with the knowledge and habits that contribute to energy conservation. These activities are not just lessons for today but life skills for a greener tomorrow.”

The day concluded with a powerful message: “National Energy Conservation Day reminds us that small actions lead to big changes. Whether it’s switching off lights, unplugging devices, or using renewable energy sources, every choice can make a difference. Save energy, save the future, and dream big, because, at Narayana, your dreams are our dreams.

Every year, October 4th is celebrated as World Smile Day. Founded by Harvey Ball, the creator of the iconic smiley face, World Smile Day reminds us of the remarkable ability of a smile to spread kindness and positivity and how smiles are a genuine reflection of our happiness.

This year, while celebrating International Smile Day at Narayana Schools, we asked our students a straightforward yet profound question: What can you do to bring a smile to your friends’ faces?

The World Smile Day 2024 event was organised with the aim of encouraging students to reflect on the profound impact a simple smile can have on someone’s day. It highlighted the importance of understanding and sharing emotions, fostering kindness, and spreading positivity.

While celebrating the event, in a cheerful and playful moment, two sets of students exchanged glances and burst into giggles, unable to contain their smiles. Their infectious laughter filled the hallways, creating an atmosphere brimming with warmth and joy. Another group of students made funny faces at each other, resulting in fits of laughter. Their playful antics served as a delightful reminder of how simple gestures can foster shared happiness.

In a light-hearted moment, one student lightly tickled their friend, instantly bringing a smile to their face. This spontaneous act of affection beautifully captured the essence of friendship and joy. A senior student also surprised a friend with a thoughtful gesture. One student turned to their friend and enthusiastically shouted, “Pizza!” or “Panipuri!” Instantly, their friend’s face lit up, illustrating how food can ignite joy and camaraderie. On the other hand, in a friendly competition, two students engaged in a stare-off, desperately trying not to smile as they made silly faces at each other. Their efforts to maintain serious expressions were in vain, leading to uncontrollable laughter.

Students shared light-hearted PJs (poor jokes), laughing uncontrollably as they tried to keep a straight face. This joy of sharing laughter reaffirmed that humour is a powerful tool for connection. In a heartwarming display of gratitude, students surprised their teachers with roses and heartfelt letters, eliciting warm smiles in return. This act of appreciation underscored the importance of gratitude in nurturing a positive community.

Dr. P. Sindhura, Director, Narayana Educational Institutions stated, “On this World Smile Day, let us remember that a simple smile can illuminate even the darkest days. At Narayana, we believe that nurturing joy and positivity within our community fosters an environment where dreams can flourish.”

Ms. P. Sharani, Director, Narayana Educational Institutions mentioned, “Happy World Smile Day! Smiles are the universal language of kindness. As we celebrate today, let us commit to spreading joy and support, knowing that every smile has the power to change lives at Narayana and beyond.”

Let’s pledge to promote happiness not just today, but every day, cultivating a culture of kindness and positivity within our community. Whether through a small gesture, a funny joke, or simply being present for a friend, we all play a role in making the world a brighter place.

So, on this World Smile Day, let’s carry the spirit of World Smile Day forward and create lasting memories filled with smiles. Remember, each smile counts, and together, we can make a difference. At Narayana, we cherish the positive effects of these moments that help a student reach their full potential because at Narayana, your dreams are our dreams.

Happy World Smile Day!

Narayana Schools celebrated World Rivers Day 2024 with a unique and engaging event designed to educate students about the importance of rivers in our life. The celebration was centred around a thought-provoking quiz that tested students’ knowledge on the contribution of Indian rivers to the economy and raised awareness about the deteriorating health of river systems across the country.

The event highlighted the critical role rivers play in supporting the nation’s agriculture, industries, and overall economy, while also focusing on the urgent need to restore and preserve our water bodies.

The treatment of the quiz was designed to capture the students’ attention and encourage critical thinking. This innovative approach not only made the quiz engaging but also reinforced the importance of rivers in a memorable and interactive manner.

The quiz questions covered a range of topics, from the historical significance of rivers in India’s ancient civilizations to their current contribution to the Indian economy. Students were challenged to think about how rivers support industries like agriculture, fishing, and transportation, as well as how they are critical for providing clean water and maintaining biodiversity.

At the same time, the quiz raised awareness about the current deteriorating health of river systems across India. Through the questions, students learned about issues such as pollution, deforestation, and the over-extraction of water, all of which threaten the sustainability of these vital water bodies.

Dr. P. Sindhura, Director at Narayana Educational Institutions, commented on the significance of the event, saying, “Rivers are the lifeline of our country. It is important that the younger generation understands their role in our economy and ecosystems. By educating students on the state of our rivers, we are fostering a sense of responsibility and environmental stewardship.”

Ms. P. Sharani, Director at Narayana Educational Institutions, added, “At Narayana, we believe in holistic education. Celebrating World Rivers Day 2024 with such an interactive approach helps students learn in a fun and engaging way while raising awareness about critical environmental issues.”

The event concluded with the message, “Rivers are for life, life needs rivers,” reminding students that rivers are essential not only for economic growth but for sustaining life itself. The celebration encouraged students to reflect on their role in preserving and protecting rivers for future generations.

The event was a resounding success, instilling in students a deeper understanding of the importance of rivers and the need for conservation. As always, Narayana Schools remain committed to not only academic excellence but also the overall development of its students, because at Narayana, your dreams are our dreams.

The day began with a warm welcome for the teachers, who were greeted with flowers and heartfelt cards made by the students themselves. Each classroom was decorated with banners and posters, reflecting the pivotal role teachers play in illuminating the path to knowledge.

Understanding the Role of a Teacher

One of the highlights of the Teacher’s Day celebration was the interactive session where students took on the role of teachers. This role reversal allowed them to experience firsthand the challenges and responsibilities of teaching. From managing a classroom to explaining complex concepts, students got a glimpse into the everyday life of a teacher. This experience was both enlightening and humbling, helping them appreciate the patience, dedication, and effort their teachers put in daily.

As students tried their hands at teaching, they realised it is more than just imparting knowledge; it’s about connecting with each student, understanding their individual needs, and fostering a learning environment where everyone feels valued. This exercise taught them the importance of empathy and communication, which are crucial in building a strong teacher-student relationship.

The Significance of Teacher’s Day

Teacher’s Day is not just a day to thank our educators; it’s a day to reflect on the profound impact they have on our lives. Teachers do more than teach subjects—they inspire curiosity, instil values, and encourage critical thinking. They are mentors who guide us through our formative years, helping us realise our potential and shaping us into responsible individuals.

Narayana Schools celebrated Independence Day 2024 with great pride, marking the 78th anniversary of India’s independence. This year’s celebration paid tribute to the sacrifices of the past and reflected on how education has been central to India’s transformation from a colonised nation to a global powerhouse.

The Independence Day celebration began with the hoisting of the national flag, followed by the national anthem and cultural performances that honoured India’s rich heritage. The highlight of the event was a discussion among students about the deep connection between independence and education.

During the event, Narayana students engaged in a meaningful discussion about the struggles of the pre-independence era, reflecting on the hardships faced by their ancestors. A 6th-grade student remarked on how the British stripped Indians of their rights, forcing them to live under unjust conditions. An 8th grader added that widespread poverty under British rule made it difficult for Indians to access basic needs like food and shelter, leaving education and healthcare as distant priorities. Another student highlighted the inequality in education, noting that while privileged individuals received better schooling, ordinary Indians had to fight for improved access through movements like Civil Disobedience and Quit India.

The discussion also highlighted India’s progress since gaining independence, with students recognising education as a key driver of development. One student noted that India has evolved into the world’s largest democracy and a rapidly growing country, largely due to advancements in education. The significance of the Right to Education, which provided free and compulsory education for children aged 6 to 14, was emphasised by a 5th-grade student. Reflecting on the nation’s achievements, another student pointed out the increase in literacy rates from 12% in 1947 to nearly 80% today, as well as the global influence of institutions like IITs, IIMs, and AIIMS in shaping the future. Looking ahead to 2047, students envisioned a developed India with a more hybrid and technologically advanced educational system.

Ms. P. Sharani, Director, Narayana Educational Institutions mentioned, “Independence Day is not just a day of celebration; it is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by our ancestors and the responsibilities we hold as the future of this great nation. At Narayana, we strive to instil in our students the values of freedom, resilience, and excellence, ensuring that they grow into leaders who will continue to uphold and advance the ideals of our nation.”

The overall celebration of Independence Day 2024 at Narayana Schools truly captured the significance of this historic day, not just as a remembrance of past sacrifices, but as a reflection of its ongoing importance in shaping the lives of every Indian. The event was a vibrant blend of patriotism, culture, and thoughtful discourse, highlighting how deeply Independence Day resonates across generations. Through flag-hoisting, cultural performances, and student discussions, the celebration emphasised the profound impact of independence on our nation’s growth and development. It also provided a platform for the future generation to express their thoughts and aspirations, demonstrating how the ideals of freedom continue to inspire and guide them. The event served as a powerful reminder that the legacy of independence is not just about looking back but also about envisioning and working towards a brighter future, with education at its core. At Narayana, we are committed to continuing our pursuit of excellence in education and beyond because, at Narayana, Your Dreams are Our Dreams.
